Joining the PVA

Veterinary professionals joining the PVA will have the chance to be part of a new, progressive veterinary voice on the welfare and protection of animals across all sectors of human-animal interaction.

Why join the PVA?

Whilst the PVA is based in the UK, we are an international organisation and encourage membership from all parts of the world.

Professional members (veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, veterinary students and student/ trainee veterinary nurses) will enjoy:

  • Opportunities to initiate, shape and participate in advocacy and campaign work on key animal welfare issues through PVA working groups

  • A ‘safe’ environment to raise animal welfare-related concerns in a veterinary context, and the opportunity to voice concerns with the support of like-minded colleagues

  • A quarterly electronic bulletin of the PVA and regular updates on PVA campaigns and issues of interest

  • Access to events, including a reduced fee for the PVA annual conference and discussion forum

  • The opportunity to create and participate in free online workshops, which contribute to veterinary CPD

If you are joining as a veterinary surgeon, or as a veterinary nurse, you will be asked to provide your Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) registration number as part of the joining process, or equivalent evidence of your status as a veterinary surgeon or veterinary nurse if you are not registered with the RCVS.

Discounts are available according to regional economic circumstances, but solely at the discretion of PVA Directors.

Students must provide evidence of their course enrolment for entitlement to free membership.

Associate membership is for supporters of the PVA, including allied professionals and lay members. Associate members will receive electronic bulletins about PVA progress and campaigns. The minimum fee is £12, although we welcome further donations of financial support, which can be made here.

About our memberships

We will send you an email confirming receipt of the membership fee, and a further email confirming your membership of the PVA.

Your membership will run for 12 months from the date on which the first payment was made. When your membership is due to expire, it will automatically renew for a further 12 months, unless you inform us that you would like to cancel your membership.

Where a vote is opened to PVA members, only professional memberships entitle respective voting rights.

You may terminate your membership at any time and for any reason. To terminate your membership, please email us. No refunds of any subscription fee already paid will be given.

The PVA reserves the right to cancel membership at any time and for any reason, as determined by Directors of the PVA. The practice or promotion of animal abuse is not compatible with PVA membership; should such concerns emerge in relation to a member, Directors of the PVA will be charged with collating evidence, including testimony from the specific member, before arriving at a decision on whether to cancel or suspend the individual’s membership.

Full terms and conditions for membership are here.
